Amina Sheik Salad Heydar is a dedicated nurse working as a vaccinator at the Wahar Adde Health centre in Dusmareb district of Galmudug State of Somalia. She has always believed in the power of vaccinations to prevent diseases and protect communities. When the opportunity to join the health workers at centre arose, Amina eagerly stepped up to play her part in the fight against diseases such as Measles and Mumps. She has been working as a Vaccinator for 5 years.
Amina understands the importance of making the vaccination process as smooth and comfortable as possible for her patients. She greets each person with a warm smile and a reassuring voice, knowing that some may be anxious or hesitant. She takes the time to address their concerns, patiently explaining the science behind the vaccines and the benefits of getting vaccinated.
"We provide the vaccination daily. Vaccinated children under 5. We provide different types of vaccinations." she said. As Amina administers the vaccines, she does so with precision and care. She understands the importance of proper techniques to ensure safe and effective administration. She also educates her patients on post-vaccination symptoms, emphasizing the normal side effects and when to seek medical attention.
Beyond her role as a vaccinator, Amina plays a crucial part in vaccine education and outreach. She collaborates with community members to host informational sessions. She works tirelessly to ensure that accurate and reliable information about vaccines is accessible to everyone.
The vaccination campaign is part of the AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) funded project whose goal is to improve access to basic health and protection services for vulnerable and marginalized communities in conditions of immediate need.
