Rights

Everyone has the right to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health. CISP supports communities in Somalia to ensure access to critical, life saving and sustaining medical treatment. This is aimed at reduction of mother and infant mortality, healthy development of children, improvement of nutrition and hygiene and the prevention, treatment and control of communicable diseases.

 

Action:

Support to Local Health authorities and committees in providing health and nutrition services at hospital level; Support to Hospitals in providing: :

  • Outpatient and Inpatient services;
  • Support to Comprehensive hospital service delivery (surgical and medical therapy, emergency and elective treatment);
  • HIV/AIDS: Integrated Prevention Treatment Care, Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing Service, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, provision of Anti Retro Viral Treatment, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI);
  • Tuberculosis: treatment, control and management.

 

People:

The following were reached in 2012:

Hospital based projects

  • 24,812 outpatients received medical consultation, including 9,242 under five years;
  • 4,415 patients were admitted for treatment;
  • 701 births were assisted, of which 63 were through Caesarean Section;
  • 287 major surgeries were performed.

 

HIV/AIDS project

  • 2,530 men and women received Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing (VCCT);
  • 2,807 cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) were identified, treated and referred for VCCT;
  • 5,704 pregnant women attended antenatal clinic and were given counseling on HIV;
  • 2,682 women attending antenatal care were tested for HIV;
  • 977 pregnant women were counseled for HIV at labour, delivery and postpartum;
  • 23 patients were put under anti-retroviral therapy;
  • 526 blood donors were screened for HIV.

 

Tuberculosis Projects (3 TB centers)

  • 193 TB patients were treated under direct medical supervision.
