Infant and Young Children Feeding Training Program

Health and Nutrition

March 14, 2024 Banadir,Shibis,Shangani

CISP with the support of the Directorate of Health of Banadir Regional Administration and UNICEF, organized an Infant and Young Children Feeding (IYCF) training for Health workers.

The training component of the package was intended to equip community health workers with the technical knowledge on the recommended breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices for children from 0 up to 24 months, enhance their counselling,  problem-solving and negotiation skills, and prepare them to effectively use the learned skills in their work.

In particular the training improved the capacity of 14 technical frontline health and nutrition workers from Shibis and Shangani district in Mogadishu,  with skills and knowledge about promotion of optimal IYCN interventions as per the WHO/UNICEF/MOH guidelines.

"The IYCF training was an eye-opening experience for me. It provided me with valuable knowledge and skills to support mothers in giving their infants the best start in life through proper nutrition." Said Nasro, an IYCF female from Shibis.

The training methods were based on adult learning principles by means of multi-grasping techniques comprising Brainstorming, Presentations, Flip charts, Discussions, Group work, Roleplay, Practice, and Video demonstration.

“I learned so much about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding during the IYCF training. It has motivated me to spread awareness in my community and empower mothers to make informed choices for their children's health." Says Naima, a Female Participant from Shangani.

This training initiative is part of the UNICEF funded project: Support scale-up of preventative and curative nutrition services for children and women in Shibis and Shangani of Banadir Regional Administration.
